The device has a laser diode in a holder optically connected to a fiber in an axially movable fiber plug via coupling optics. Elements are provided for adjusting the laser diode, coupling optics and fiber plug relative to each other. The coupling optics consist of a collimator lens, polariser and focusing lens. Light from the laser diode is collimated and focused onto the fiber core point after passing through the polariser. The device has a laser diode (1) in a holder (2) optically connected to a fiber in an axially movable fiber plug (5) via coupling optics. A housing (3) encloses the holder, coupling optics and fiber plug and adjustment elements (10) are provided for adjusting the laser diode, coupling optics and fiber plug with respect to each other. The coupling optics consist of a collimator lens (14), a polariser (15) and a focusing lens (16). Light from the laser diode is collimated and focused onto the fiber core point after passing through the polariser. The position sought is defined by forming an image of the diode emitter on the core of the fiber in the plug.
