Welding bath securing device comprises a molded body containing water-free kaolin which is molded in a rigid plastic state and solidified by tempering below the sintering temperature. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of the securing bath comprising adding water to a dry batch to adjust the viscosity for the required molding process, preferably dry pressing or extruding, molding to a securing device profile, and tempering at 500-800, preferably 600 deg C to harden and completely remove the water added. Preferred Features: The molded body is made of (in wt.%) 15-30 alumina, 45-70 ground quartz, 5-15 water-free kaolin, and 5-15 dry water glass.
