METHOD OF MANAGING SERVO DEFECTS IN HARD DISK DRIVE

PURPOSE: A method of managing servo defects in a hard disk drive is provided to discriminate different defects from one another and accurately detect servo defects on a disk in a disk driver assembly. CONSTITUTION: The first servo bit is read to judge a position error signal with respect to the first sector. Then, the second servo bit is read to judge a position error signal with respect to the second sector. When the first servo bit is different from a reference size by more than a threshold size, the first sector is identified such that it has the first defect type. When the rate of variation of position error signal between the first and second sectors exceeds a predetermined rate, the second defect type is identified. When a burst signal of the first sector is larger than a threshold frequency, the first sector is identified such that is has the third defect type.
