PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the conventional device that inspects human eyes for visual acuity to be able to be manufactured easily and inexpensively. SOLUTION: At the time of inspecting human eyes, the device for inspecting human eyes for visual acuity is directed in an observational axial line (40) at a fixed observational position (41). A means incorporated with a first light source (42) generates a stimulus at a position which can be selected around the axial line (40). A second light source (49) generates uniform ambient light around the axial line (40). The light source (49) is provided with at least one LED (57-59). The LEDs (57-59) can be controlled selectively to generate continuous ambient light or flickering ambient light. By utilizing at least two (57 and 58) of the LEDs, colored ambient light can be generated from one LED (57) through a fixed color filter (56). No means is required for promoting the cooling of a mobile section which generates the flickering ambient light and second lights sources (49 and 49').
