PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide (2R,3S) or (2S,3R)-N-carbamate-protectedβ-amino epoxide (crystals) and a method of producing the same. SOLUTION: The method of producing an N-carbamate-protectedβ-amino- alcohol comprises the following steps (a)-(d); (a) the step where the (2R,3S) or (2S,3R)-N-carbamate-protectedβ-amino epoxide including at least the diastereomers as impurities is dissolved in a solvent and the purities are removed; (b) the step where amino alcohol is treated with a base to convert the alcohol to the corresponding N-carbamate-protectedβ-amino epoxide; (c) the step where the amino epoxide including its diastereomers as impurities is treated with an acid to convert the impurities to oxazolidine-2-one, which is removed, when necessary; and (d) the step where the epoxide product is crystallized in water and/or a mixture thereof with an organic solvent. |
