The automatic fastening system for fixing boots (29) on a snowboard comprises a frame (3) containing a pivoting jaw (5) whose end (9) is moved downwards when the foot is introduced. This is retained by a cam (14) which cooperates with a locking wedge (15) which can move downwards through a guide (20) and is biased by a spring (22) towards the locking position. The locking system can fix the jaw in different positions according to the position of the boot with respect to the board. The jaw has a spring (12) which biases it towards the open position. A ledge (25) on the inside of the frame can hold the locking wedge open and a boss (17) on the top of the cam releases it from this position as the jaw descends. A cable (23) which passes through the top of the frame allows the wedge to be moved to the open position.
