PURPOSE: Provided is a thermoplastic aliphatic polyester resin excellent in transparency, biodegradability, and formability, which has fast crystallization rate, excellent workability, and broad molecular weight distribution. CONSTITUTION: The thermoplastic aliphatic polyester resin is produced by polycondensing succinic acid as a dicarboxylic acid component and a diol component comprising ethylene glycol, 1,4-butandiol, and 1,2-butandiol in the weight ratio of 10:85:5-0:80:20. The thermoplastic aliphatic polyester resin comprises the repeating units represented by the formulas (I), (II) or (I), (II), (III) and has an intrinsic viscosity of 1-1.5cp, a melting point of 90-120deg.C, a transparency of less than 5, and a number average molecular weight of 30,000-50,000. In the formula, when R is H, R' is ethyl and when R is ethyl, R' is H.
