PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magneto-optical recording medium and a recording/ reproducing method suitable for a PRML system. SOLUTION: The magneto-optical recording medium is constituted, for example, by adjusting the composition of a reproducing layer so that a fluctuation ratio to reproducing power of a noise level (or noise level difference) of a detected reproducing signal falls within a prescribed range when a recording mark which is recorded in accordance with the PRML system is reproduced by using reproducing light of different reproducing power. Thus, an error rate is reduced and also a reproducing power margin is widened.
