A welding machine for manufacturing frames, especially window frames, has six or more welding heads (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) for welding the individual frame parts together. Four welding heads (1, 2, 3, 4) have welding tools (11, 12, 13, 14) aligned with the mitres for welding the corners and the other heads (5, 6), which lie between the corner welding heads, are used for welding in an abutment (10) and have angled welding tools (15, 16), each having a long shank (17) enabling it to weld corners. In a frame welding process: (a) a part of a frame is manufactured, especially an A-frame; (b) a reinforcing bar is introduced into a channel of the part frame; and (c) the frame is completed by welding in the remaining profile. Preferably the angled welding tools (15, 16) also have a short shank (18) for welding in of an abutment (10). The welding heads (5, 6) can be operated in conjunction with both pairs of corner welding heads (1, 4; 2, 3) in a single welding stage to simultaneously manufacture two window frames. Two welding heads (2, 3), each with an angled welding tool, are used to weld a common profile completing an prewelded A-frame. Holders for the profiles before and during welding move in the plane of the frame and/or at a right angle to it or press the profile against the prewelded frame or another profile. |
