PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure a wider choice of organic dye compounds in the manufacture of a high density optical recording medium as well as to find a potential use for an organic dye compound in a high density optical recording medium. SOLUTION: In the optical recording medium in which a substrate and a recording layer disposed on the substrate using an organic dye compound are included and information is recorded by irradiating the recording layer with light for writing and forming pits in the substrate by the organic dye compound, the absorption maximum of the organic dye compound is attained at a wavelength longer than that of the light for writing.
