A linked chain for which the different chain elements formed by the links are combined in the form of pairs of cradle pieces threaded in some recesses in the links and presenting cradled surfaces supporting each other, has at least the front surfaces of the cradle pieces coming into active contact with some conical discs incorporating a nitrogen enriched superficial layer, such as a carbonitrided layer. Independent claims are included for: (a) a strip of tangential elements incorporating such nitrogen enriched superficial areas; (b) a reduction gear mechanism with interlaced conical plates; (c) and a component for reduction gear mechanisms.
