The images obtained by projecting light patterns on the side walls of a tire (1) are supplied to an image processor. Two-dimensional depth data of the tire corresponding to different tire pressures are determined. The defects on the tire surface are determined based on shape change of tire that is determined by comparing the two-dimensional depth data.
