An exercise treadmill comprising a control system and a belt lubrication system operatively connected to the control system for periodically applying a lubricant to the belt is arranged such that the control system operates in accordance with a program routine (266) whereby a priming pulse of lubricant is provided ahead of application of the lubricant. The priming pulse acts to clear the orifice of the spray nozzle by having the emulsifier in the priming pulse emulsify the wax residue and in combination with emulsifier acts to soften the residue so the regular spray through the nozzle can clear the orifice.
