PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which is capable of reading adequate images without degradation in processing ability even if there are narrow places between frames photographed on films. SOLUTION: This device has an image reading means, a reading control section which has the images of the respective images read by the image reading means after originals are read overall and a position detecting section which detects the image positions of the respective frames by analyzing the image data over the entire part of the originals and sends the information on the image positions to the reading control section. The position detecting section moves the image position of at least one frame to adjust the spacings between the image positions of the frames adjacent to each other to a prescribed length or above when the spacings described above are shorter than the prescribed length as the result of detection of the image position. The detecting section sends the information on the image positions to the reading control section.
