PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to improve the on-current characteristics by reduce the thickness of a gate insulating layer between gate electrodes and semiconductor layer serving as a channel area. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display includes scanning lines(32a), gate electrodes(32b) and first electrodes(32c) at a side of storage capacitors respectively formed on a substrate(31), a low dielectric substance layer(33) formed of BCB(Benzocyclobutene) or photoacryl on the entire surface of the substrate by a thickness of 5000-50000angstrom except the gate electrodes and the first electrodes of the capacitor, a gate insulation film(35) formed on the entire surface including the low dielectric substance layer by a thickness of 5000angstrom or less, a channel layer(36) and source/drain electrodes(37b,37c) formed on the gate insulation film on the gate electrodes, data lines(37a) formed on the gate insulation film crossing the gate electrodes, second electrodes(37d) of the other side of the storage capacitors formed on the gate insulation film on the first electrodes, and pixel electrodes(39) electrically connected to the drain electrodes and the second electrodes of the capacitors.
