PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of purification for obtaining high-purity trans-1,4- cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid advantageously on an industrial scale. SOLUTION: Crude trans-1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid comes in contact with a purification solvent containing a cyclic ether to selectively dissolve 4-methylcyclohexanecarboxylic acid, a main impurity, and the like into the purification solvent followed by separating the solid and the solvent from each other.
