PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a polymer comprising hydrogenated octasilsesquioxane in the main chain which is soluble in organic solvents and has excellent heat resistance, weatherability, oxidation resistance and insulating ability. SOLUTION: The method of producing a hydrogenated octasilsesquioxane- hydroxy group containing compound copolymer comprises reacting hydrogenated octasilsesquioxane (A) having a cage structure expressed by formula (1): with a hydroxy group containing compound (B) expressed by the general formula: HO-L-OH (where L is selected from (i) a bivalent organic group having 3 to 10 carbons, (ii)-(SiR2O)m-SiR2-, where 0<=m<=10, R represents each individually an aliphatic hydrocarbon group having 1 to 12 carbons or an aryl group having 6 to 9 carbons, in the existence of a condensation catalyst).
