PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a footstep of an escalator allowed to easily inspect the fastening status of the footstep to a footstep shaft, so as to heighten the efficiency of maintenance work. SOLUTION: A fixed holding part 5 opposite to the upper side of the footstep shaft 19 is provided under a tread 7, and under the tread 7, a movable holder 11 opposite to the lower side of the footstep shaft 19 held on the fixed holding part 5 is provided on the tread 7. A small diameter part 21 of a fastener 20 having the small diameter part 21 on one end side, a screw part 22 on the other end side and a large diameter part 23 in the longitudinal middle part is disposed to pass through a penetrating hole 9 of the tread 7, and the screw part 22 is passed through the fixed holding part 5 from above to hold the footstep shaft 19 and screwed into the movable holder 11 to hold the footstep shaft 19 between the fixed holding part 5 and the movable holder 11. Thus, the upper end of the fastener 20 fastening the movable holder 11 approaches the penetrating hole 9 of the tread 7 so that the position of the upper end of the fastener 20 can be easily inspected from above the tread 7.
