Method uses a contactless temperature sensor (14), e.g. an infrared sensor, for detecting the actual operating temperature of the coal mining plant, for storage with reference temperature values via a process computer, for providing a control signal for switching to a partial loading operating mode upon exceeding a first temperature value and initiating cut-out of the coal mining plant when a limit temperature is exceeded.
