PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a garbage treating apparatus which satisfactorily decomposes garbage in a short start operating period and reduces the generation of malodor even in the start operating period. SOLUTION: This apparatus is provided with an apparatus body 1, an electric motor 4 arranged in the apparatus body 1 and a stirring blade 18 driven by the electric motor 4. The apparatus also has a storage part 22 for storing a cultured substance 20 and a supply mechanism 23 for supplying the cultured substance 20 stored in the storage part 22 to the apparatus body 1. The cultured substance 20 in the storage part 22 can be supplied to a carrier 19 in the apparatus body 1 with a switch operation during the apparatus start operating period. A cover body 14 is installed to be freely be opened/closed and the cover body opening/closing detector 24 of the cover body 14 is installed. When the cover body opening/closing detector 24 does not detect an opening/closing state for a prescribed period, a control circuit 27 controls the supply mechanism 23 so that the cultured object 20 in the storage part 22 is automatically supplied to the apparatus main body 1.
