PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically detect an abnormal cut before splashes are made over a cast slab. SOLUTION: When a gas cutting torch 18 is shifted in a crossing direction over a cast slab 12, the edge part 12a of the cast slab 12 which is preheated by flames for preheating burst from the torch 18 is started to be cut by gas for cutting. After the lapse of prescribed time, an image data which is photographed by a camera 24 is captured in an image processing means 26 and processed the image, a luminance distribution table is drawn up, and cutting depth T of a cutting part is measured. The cutting depth T is compared with a threshold level K by means of a judgment means 28, if this cutting depth T is larger than the threshold level K, it is judged that cutting is normally conducted. If the cutting depth T is smaller than the threshold level K, the cast slab 12 is not started to be cut normally by various causes, and it is judged that an abnormal cut has occurred. |
