The amplifier diode laser pump has a crossing synchronised mode beam (1) radiation pumping the laser amplifier. Following irradiated radiation pumping a variable intensity thermal lens (TL) appears in the laser crystal. The laser crystal thermal lens focuses diverging laser beams in the thermal lens region.
