An oil separator, comprising a shell (50) having a cylindrical portion and a downwardly convergent tapered portion formed integrally with the cylindrical portion at the lower part thereof, an outflow tube (51) inserted into the shell from the upper part so that the center axis of the shell is aligned with the center axis thereof, a discharge tube (52) connected to an opening provided at the lower part of the tapered portion, and an inflow tube (53) connected to the cylindrical portion in the tangential direction of the inner wall surface thereof and allowing two gas-liquid phase flow to flow into the shell, wherein a distance between the opening (50a) of the shell and the end part (51a) of the outflow tube inside the shell is five times the inner diameter of the inflow tube (53) or longer.
