PURPOSE: Provided is a preparation method of the skin of a drum which determines the sound of our traditional musical instrument. The drum consists of a wood cylinder and animal skin covering the cylinder. The skin is an important part and generates sound waves by vibration and wave length when being struck with drum stick or hand. The skin prepared through various physical and chemical treatment increases its strength, moisture resistance, is not attacked by fungi and keeps the skin from expansion or constriction due to temperature change. CONSTITUTION: The preparation method comprises: a lime process(10) in which the dehaired skin is put into a drum with 0.1-6.0wt.% (based on the weight of skin) of calcium hydroxide and the drum is rotated for 0.5-24 hours to make the skin smooth; a deliming process(20) where the above skin is neutralized by rotating the drum with 0.1-6.0wt.% of ammonium chloride and 0.1-6.0wt.% of ammonium sulfate for 0.1-6 hours; a bating process(30) where the drum is rotated for 0.2-6 hours with 0.1-4.0wt.% of bating agent to make the skin clean and flexible; an acid treatment process(40) wherein 0.1-15.0wt.% of salt is added to the drum after deliming and bating process(20)(30), rotating for 0.02-6 hours, adding 0.1-5wt.% of hydrogen peroxide and rotating 5-12 hours, adding 0.1-5.0wt.% of formic acid and 0.1-5wt.% of sulfuric acid and rotating for 0.1-36 hours to enhance the permeability of chemicals; a tanning process(50) wherein 0.1-5wt.% of fat liquoring agent(animal, plant and mineral oil), 0.1-20.0wt.% of aluminum tanning agent, 0.1-20.0wt.% of zirconium tanning agent, 0.1-20.0wt% of anti-bacterial agent are added and rotated for 1-24 hours, adjusting pH to 0.1-8.0 by adding sodium carbonate to increase the strength of the skin; a retanning process(60) wherein sodium bicarbonate is added to the above tanned skin, adjusting pH to 2.0-8.0, adding 0.1-20.0wt.% of the phenolic firewood and rotating for 0.2-6 hours to raise its smoothness; a fat liquoring process(70) wherein 0.1-30.0wt.% of fat liquoring agent is added to the above retanned skin, rotating for 0.2-12 hours and adding formic acid to make pH to 1.0-6.0 so that its flexibility is increased; and a dying process(80) wherein 0.1-10.0wt.% of natural dye and plant dye containing tannin is added and treated for 0.2-10 hours and dried.
