The invention relates to a process for preparing (E)-N-methyl-N-(1-naphthylmethyl)-3-phenyl-2-propene-1-amine hydrochloride of the formula (I): by reacting the (E)-N-methyl-3-phenyl-2-propene-1-amine hydrochloride of the formula (II): with alpha-chloromethyl-naphtalene in an inert organic solvent, in the presence of an inorganic base, at the environment temperature. The resulting product is isolated as a salt, with chlorine hydride, by crystallization from various solvents.
