PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-weight cylinder block generating less vibration and noise in an engine at high temperature, and method of manufacturing that. SOLUTION: This cylinder block is provided with cylinder block main bodies 5 and 21, bearings 11 and 17 installed on lower surfaces of the main body parts 5 and 21, and a crankshaft rotatably supported by bearing parts 13 and 25 formed by the lower surfaces of the main body parts 5 and 21 and the bearings 11 and 17. An aluminum alloy layer 33 is provided on a slide part of the bearing parts 13 and 25, and a composite member 35 is provided at a peripheral part of the aluminum alloy layer 33. The thermal expansion coefficient of the composite member 35 is smaller than that of the aluminum alloy layer 33 provided on the slide part.
