PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool for casting excellent in resistance to erosion and excellent in softening resistance and toughness under nonferrous casting conditions and to provide a steel composition therefor. SOLUTION: This tool is composed of steel having a steel composition containing, by mass, 0.05 to 0.4% C, 0.10 to 1.5% Si, 0.1 to 1.5% Mn, 7 to 15% Cr and 0.05 to 1.5% V, in which the content of P in impurities is controlled t0 <=0.050%, and S to <=0.015%, and a chromium oxide layer with a thickness of 1 to 30μm may further be provided proximately to the base metal of the casting tool.
