PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of discharge lamp negative electrode which prevents an electron emission body from overheating, and enables simplifying of the manufacturing process. SOLUTION: An electron emitting body 1 having proper electron emissive property is prepared by cutting a commercial tungsten rod, including electron emissive material. After putting the electron emission body 1 in a hole formed at the bottom of a bottomed cylinder-shaped mold 3, tungsten powder 5 is filled in the mold 3, and compressed by a punch 4 and is burned in proper temperature to form a rod-shaped negative electrode base body. The negative electrode is completed, by cutting a top end part including the electron emission body 1 of the negative electrode base body into a tapered shape.
