<p>A battery (1) having a cathode (12) modified by grooving and/or roughening cathodes and method of making them are provided. The cathode (12) may be provided with at least one groove extending about 10 to about 450 microns, into a surface of the cathode. The cathode may include graphite particles at a surface of the cathode. The graphite particles may have a a-b crystallographic phase oriented substantially parallel, non-paralled or perpendicular, to the surface of the cathode. Generally, the modified battery has good capacity at high and low drain rates and under continuous and intermittent discharge rates.</p> |
