An assist grip handle 10 with an incorporated dampening structure 16 for use in a motor vehicle. The dampening structure 16 is incorporated so that when the vehicle occupant releases the assist grip handle 10 it returns to its stored position (by urging means 18) in a controlled manner. The assist grip handle 10 comprises a U-shaped grip body 12 and retainers 14A, 14B which are attached to the ceiling of the vehicle. Retainer 14A carries a oil damper 16 and retainer 14B carries a spring as urging means. The oil damper 16 is made of resin and formed of a cylindrical inner shaft 62, and an outer cylinder 64 enclosing the inner shaft 62 therein. The area between the inner shaft 62 and the outer cylinder 64 is filled with oil, the dampening force is formed by the viscous resistance of oil when the inner shaft 62 and the outer cylinder 64 move relative to each other. The damper of the invention provides improved part assembly in speed and quality and product durability is increased. |
