PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state imaging device that enhances the transfer efficiency of signal charges under electrodes at which a transfer channel width at a final stage of horizontal transfer registers is narrowed, that eliminates color mixture in the signal charges and that maintains the linearity of a luminous quantity pair signal and to provide a method for driving the solid-state imaging device. SOLUTION: The phase of a drive pulseϕH1L and of an inverse of drive pulseϕOG are set earlier than the phase of a drive pulseϕH1 by 1/(nf) (f is the drive frequency of the horizontal transfer register 3, n>=4, and n is an integer) to set the phases of theϕH1L and theϕOG with a deviation from the cross point of theϕH1 and aϕH2 by (a time up to a half value at a leading of (1/(nf))-ϕH1L) and an H1L resistance breeder 18 applies a mean DC bias of N×VϕH (N>=0.5) to the drive pulseϕH1L of the H1L4 that is the final stage of the horizontal transfer register 3.
