PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of a vernier method, which has not had an significant study and effect yet, making the pitches of denticles for a stator and denticles for a rotor unequal, and which has been developed to reduce distortion in cogging torque and current torque of a three-phase hybrid stepping motor, and to clarify the theory of the vernier method, thereby providing a new vernier method capable of attaining higher degree of freedom and effectiveness. SOLUTION: In this stepping motor, cogging torque of a three-phase hybrid stepping motor is considered to be generated due to regularity of variations in permeance between denticles provided on a magnetic pole of a stator and a magnetic pole of a rotor changing with the rotation of the rotor. Six denticles provided on the end of the stator are divided into two groups of three denticles and the sum of the permeance vectors of the three respective denticles on a third higher harmonic plane is set so as to be zero substantially. The sum of the permeance vectors of the two denticles corresponding between two groups on a fifth higher harmonic plane is set so as to be zero substantially.
