The mechanism to remove the bobbin capsule (4) or the bobbin (3), from the looper assembly in a double lockstitch sewing machine, has a guide (6) for a bobbin extraction unit (5) which exerts a magnetic pull to withdraw the bobbin or capsule from the looper (20) into a visible and accessible position. The bobbin or capsule can then be removed by hand. The system to extract a bobbin/capsule from a double lockstitch sewing machine looper has a manual guide, or it is operated by at least one actuator. The extraction unit can be moved into a third position where it does not affect the stitching action or the movement of the fabric. The looper shrouding (11) is coupled to the guide, which covers the looper when the guide is in the third position. The guide movement brings the bobbin/capsule extraction unit into the second position when the shrouding is removed. The coupling between the looper shrouding and the guide allows a removal of the shrouding for access to the looper, or a simultaneous shrouding removal and bobbin extraction unit movement with a magnetic grip on the bobbin/capsule in the second position. The bobbin/capsule extraction unit has permanent magnetic or electromagnetic characteristics.
