Seal (1) for sealing a male section to a female section of pipe has its base (2) fitted in channel (25) in one of the sections. On axial overlapping of the pipe sections, radially more protuberant first sealing portion (5) is compressed inwardly, which, due to the interconnection of portion (5) with second portion (6), also urges it into sealing engagement. Also disclosed is a pipe system where one of male pipe section (51) and female pipe section (53) carries groove (60) allowing limited angular misalignment of section (51, 53) when overlapping. Groove (60) is preferably provided in male section (51) and further groove (61) is also provided therein to receive, for example, seal (1).
