COMPACT FUEL INJECTION NOZZLE

A compact fuel injection nozzle (68 1) includes a unitary nozzle body (70 1), a nozzle cap (72 1), a valve member (82) and a spring sub assembly. The spring sub assembly (140) provides a biasing force against a valve member (82) that includes an integral lift stop. The biasing force holds the nose of the valve member (82) against the valve seat (88) of the nozzle body (70 1) until the fuel pressure inside the injector exceeds a minimum opening pressure. The lift stop (138) provides a stop limit, permitting the valve member (82) to move away from the valve seat (88) a predetermined axial distance. The minimum opening pressure and valve opening axial distance may be calibrated by selection and installation of shims (142).
