Apparatus for ultrasound treatment of a continuously moving web (M) comprises an ultrasound generator (6) incorporating a sonotrode (7). This can be raised and lowered over the web, which moves between the sonotrode and a counter-roller (9). Sensors (S1, S2) positioned in the working area control a device which produces a rapidly-flowing air stream to raise the generator and sonotrode.
