A pill dispensing system which includes a container constructed to hold a plurality of pills and that container (15) includes a lower aperture (17) and an upper portion (20). A pill lifting assembly (30) located below the pill container (15) includes a pill platform (69) which lifts a pill into the upper platform (69) and the pill ejector (70) places the pill platform (69) approaches the upper portion (20) of the container (15). A sensor (84) is operatively connected to the exit passage (21) such that the sensor (84) is capable of detecting a pill moving through the exit passage (21).
