SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of pressing out material of blank for shaping from pressed-out material preliminary thread with variable profile along lateral forming sides of thread, profile being larger near base of thread and smaller near its ridge; at process of shaping extending profile until thread height and transforming it to thread profile of ready product at sizing process. Tool for knurling thread on rod products is in the form of threading die having large number of parallel alternating threads and grooves on intake portion. Lateral sides of adjacent threads have variable profile and they form shaping groove. Smaller thread shaping profile of groove has angle equal to that of profile of thread indentation of ready product and it passes between bases of adjacent threads of threading die (along ridge of groove formed by them) and smoothly rises until height of thread transformed to profile of indentation of thread of ready product on sizing portion.
