Process for hot enameling the surface of white gold articles comprises etching the surface to be enameled before enameling for a time sufficient to partially remove alloying metals except gold found in the white gold. Preferred Features: The etching treatment is carried out using an inorganic acid concentrate and under conditions which permits the removal of zinc found in the white gold. Enameling is carried out at 600-800[deg] C. The white gold contains 75-85 wt.% gold, 8-20 wt.% nickel and 2-10 wt.% zinc.
