摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control preceding vehicle follow-up traveling so that an engine operating point is not apart from an optimum fuel consumption line and achieve optimum fuel consumption. SOLUTION: A continuously variable transmission is set in correspondence with load based on required data and a present change gear ratio is obtained in steps 101 and 102. A maximum shifting speed mechanically determined is obtained in a step 103. A relative speed is obtained and a target inter-vehicular distance for follow-up traveling is calculated in steps 104 to 106, and a target driving force for achieving the target inter-vehicular distance is calculated through steps 107 and 108. The target driving force is corrected by limiting to a realizable range for keeping the optimum fuel consumption line based on the maximum shifting speed in a step 109, and the corrected target driving force is outputted to an engine and a transmission controller in a step 110. Thus, the vehicle is prevented to forcibly attempt to realize the target inter- vehicular distance with respect to rapid acceleration of the preceding vehicle but follows up with moderate acceleration and achieves the optimum fuel consumption.</p>
