HAND-OFF APPARATUS FOR MOBILE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM AND METHOD THEREFOR

PURPOSE: A hand-off apparatus for a mobile communication system and a method therefor are provided to perform a hand-off to the most suitable BS(Base Station) using a receiving signal strength of an MS(Mobile Station), a weight value of adjacent BSs, and locations of the adjacent BSs. CONSTITUTION: A BS 1 transmits a location trace message to an MS 5 for grasping the location of the MS 5(511). The MS 5 receives the location trace message and transmits a location trace acknowledgement message(513). The BS 1 receives the location trace acknowledgement message, and transmits a time for transmitting the location trace message and a time for receiving the location trace acknowledgement message to a BSC(Base Station Controller)(515). Adjacent BSs 2 and 3 transmit times when receiving the location trace acknowledgement message to the BSC(517). The BSC calculates a distance of each BS and the MS on the basis of an RTD(Round Trip Delay) using the time in which the BS 1 transmits the location trace message and the time in which each BS receives the location trace acknowledgement message, and calculates a location of the MS 5 using the calculated distance(519). The BSC compares a previous location of the MS 5 with the current location of the MS 5 and forecasts a progress direction of the MS 5(519). The BSC provides a high weight value to a BS to which the MS 5 is moved and applies a low weight value to a BS which becomes more distant(519). The BSC transmits weight value information of the adjacent BSs and location information of the adjacent BSs and the MS to the MS 5 through the BS 1(521).
