PURPOSE: A stripping composition and a method for removing a polymer material from a substrate by using the composition are provided, which is used to remove the polymer residue from a substrate of an electronic device with reducing the corrosion of metal surface. CONSTITUTION: The stripping composition comprises 5-65 wt.% of at least one polyol; 5-55 wt.% of water; 5-65 wt.% of at least one water-miscible amine; and 5-50 wt.% of at least one polar solvent. Preferably the polyol is a substituted or unsubstituted alkanediol of C2-C20 or a substituted or unsubstituted alkanetriol of C2-C20; the amine is selected from the group consisting of ethylene diamine, diethylene triamine, triethylene tetramine, propylene diamine, aminoethylaminoethanol, ethanolamine, diethanolamine, triethanolamine, monoisopropanolamine, diisopropanolamine and 3-amino-1-propnaol; and the polar solvent is selected from the group consisting of polar nonpolar solvents, dimethyl formamide, dimethyl acetamide, γ -butyrolactone and glycol ether.
