The invention relates to a lock for a vehicle door, comprising a drive system and an associated actuating element for moving a detent pawl. Said drive system can be coupled to the detent pawl by a coupling. High levels of functionality and reliability are obtained as a result of the coupling only engaging when an inside handle and/or an outside handle associated with the vehicle door lock is activated.
