A universal communication database method and system for providing multiple types of communications based on a single Personal ID (PID) uniquely assigned to a subscriber. The PID is preferably based on the subscriber's name and is associated with one or more communicant type identifiers which identify to a network element as to the type of communication being engaged with respect to a particular subscriber. Several communication types are supported: wireline and wireless phone communications, multimedia sessions, Internet communication, email, facsimile transmission, pager communications, etc. A generic communication event is defined so as to embrace these multiple types of communication. The unique combination of the PID and a communication type identifier is mapped to various treatment data for the communication events specified for the subscriber. Access privileges data and preference option data are also provided in the universal communications database for modifying the execution treatment of communication events, which database is preferably implemented using a hierarchical database architecture. |
