PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically reproduce image data from the transmitted electronic mail upon the receipt of a transmission fault of the transmitted electronic mail, and to after prescribed processing is performed to the image data to avoid a transmission fault, while the image data subjected to the prescribed processing again attached to an electronic mail and transmit the electronic mail again, with respect to a communication unit that attaches image data to an electronic mail and transmits/receives the electronic mail. SOLUTION: The resolution for re-transmission of an electronic mail is set by a Resolution Conversion Setting column 3-7, when a Setting Available item 3-9 is checked and a DSN (dispatch notice) mail denoting disabled reception is returned after transmission of the original, the image data with a decreased resolution than that of the precedingly transmitted data are retransmitted. Even after the re-transmission with the decreased resolution, when a DNS message is received, the re-transmission is stopped and a document re-transmission error report is generated in Japanese.
