A sliding bearing having an aluminum alloy bearing layer fixed by pressure to a baking metal and, covering the bearing layer, an overlay comprised of a solid lubricant and a binder resin, characterized in that the overlay comprises an upper layer containing a solid lubricant consisting substantially of MoS2 and a lower layer containing at least one of a solid lubricant and a hard material, provided that, when MoS2 is used as the solid lubricant in the lower layer, the content of MoS2 in the lower layer is less than that in the upper layer. The sliding bearing has an overlay exhibiting good adaptability and also imparting good fatigue resistance to the bearing.
