VALVE TIMING CONTROLLER OF INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

PURPOSE: To provide a valve timing controller of an internal combustion engine capable of changing a relative rotation phase of a cam shaft when performing idle operation close to a predetermined spark advance condition in an engine stop process without changing the relative rotation phase thereof from a proper condition. CONSTITUTION: Oil pressure in a spark advance side hydraulic chamber 69 and a lag side hydraulic chamber 70 of a valve timing variable mechanism 24 is adjusted so that the relative rotation phase of the suction cam shaft is changed to a spark advance side more than a phase corresponding to start timing (predetermined spark advance condition) in the engine stop process. After the relative rotation phase is changed to the spark advance side more than the predetermined spark advance condition, a duty ratio D which is a control variable used when adjusting oil pressure is fixed to a value holding the relative rotation phase. In this condition, the relative rotation phase of the suction cam shaft is held in the vicinity of the predetermined spark advance condition and in a condition on the spark advance side more than the phase.
