The forward thrust element supported on the track for the intervertebral implant (2) has a stop when the implant has reached its required end position in the space bounded by two adjacent vertebrae. The distal end of the forward thrust element has a protruding part into a cavity (22) in the implant. The guide track has two parallel arms which fit into lengthwise grooves (22-24) open on the underside or top side.
