The present invention provides a method which enables a customer to purchase fuel from a service station which utilises a computer system wherein said computer system comprises a central controller which is accessible for interactive communication with a fuel dispenser interface connected to a fuel dispenser and with a customer interface. The central controller outputs to the customer interface a specific payment authorisation code e.g. pin number or password in response to a customer identifier inputted into the central controller via the customer interface. The fuel dispenser interface then allows the dispensing of fuel from the fuel dispenser in response to the specific payment authorisation code inputted into the fuel dispenser interface.
