PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the position and speed of a moving body such as a train running on an exclusive track without being influenced by the slip or skid of wheels or the measuring error of a wheel diameter. SOLUTION: Ground equipment such as reflectors arranged along the track on which the moving body runs, is used. The moving body is provided with a distance measuring means for detecting a distance to the ground equipment in a contactless manner, a data storage means for storing the position information of the ground equipment, and a storage means for storing the history of the position information of the moving body. The distance to the ground equipment, the position information of the ground equipment and the position history of the moving body are collated to specify the position of the moving body. The position of the moving body can thereby be accurately corrected even if wheels slip or skid, without extending a transponder. The distance measuring means can be provided at the ground equipment, and a tachometer generator can be jointly used. The speed is computed from the time cha rate of the thus obtained position.
